SUMMARY OF HOMESTAY
How Homestay Families Are Chosen
- A completed homestay family registration form must be submitted to CVIC.
- Two letters attesting to the character of the family must be submitted with the application. One letter must be from a professional in the community such as a Doctor, Lawyer, or Clergy etc. The other can be from a neighbour or workmate etc.
- Each family must allow a criminal background check by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
- CVIC completes a detailed interview with each family at their home.
- After the interview we are given a tour of the home and inspect student accommodations.

What You Will Receive
- You will be assigned a CVIC Homestay Co-Ordinator who will work with you to assure that your stay is happy and comfortable for both you and your family.
- You will be matched to a compatible family.
- You will have a private bedroom with study area.
- You will be given free use of family facilities.
- Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
- You will be included as part of your new family.
- Your family will assist and guide you.
- Your family will be your friends while you are here and, very often, friends for the rest of your life.

Note: We place one student to a Homestay. However, we offer the option of sharing a Homestay with another student from a different country. If you wish to pursue this option please advise at time of application. Note that because most students do not want to share their Homestay this option is not always available. Therefore, apply early.
Note: Homestay is a non-profit program at CVIC. Your Homestay payment is made by you directly to your family. However, if you prefer you may include the Homestay rent with your fees payment. CVIC will then issue rent payments to your Homestay family for you.

How To Apply For Homestay
- Submit this completed online Homestay Application form.
- You may complete and submit this form online. ie. complete the form, connect to the internet, and click the "Submit" button at the bottom of the form.
- You may also download this form in "rtf" format (178kb) which most word processors will open.
- Forward the Homestay Administration fee. We recommend you send the fee with your course application fee. Use the same instructions to transfer the fee to CVIC.
- When your application and fees are received our Homestay Co-Ordinator will pair you to a family that most closely matches your needs and if possible, your interests.
- Details of your family will be emailed to you or your Agent. Your family will also receive information about you. You and your family are encouraged to contact each other and become acquainted prior to your arrival. Most families have email in their homes.

What Happens When You Arrive At Comox Airport
- College officials and your homestay family will meet you at the Comox Airport (YQQ). We will make all introductions and assist you with such things as luggage retrieval.
- You will also be given a package that will contain such things as school information, bus schedule, maps etc. (Your family will assist with directions and transportation on the first day.)
- When everyone is introduced and comfortable you will leave with your family.
