About Vancouver Island

Vancouver Island is the largest Island on the West Coast of the Americas. It is separated from the mainland of Canada by the Georgia Strait, Johnstone Strait, and the Queen Charlotte Strait. It is separated from the United States mainland by the Juan de Fuca Strait in the south.

The climate is mild, with precipitation ranging from 3.8 metres per year on the western mountains to .8 metres per year on the Southeast coast.

The evolution of the Island's economy was tied strongly to the rich endowment of the natural resource industry. This helped create a solid economic base leading to the development of healthy communities and a well developed social and economic infrastructure throughout all areas of the Island.
